The Kitchener-Waterloo area in southwestern Ontario is among the fastest growing and most economically vibrant districts in Canada. Waterloo also has in excess of 20,000 temporary resident post-secondary students attending its two universities. The two cities share a common border and collectively are usually referred to as Kitchener-Waterloo or K-W.

The city of Cambridge is located in the south eastern part of the region with a population of right around 120,000. Cambridge came into existence in 1973 by the merging of the cities of Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair. Many local people felt the merger was a "shotgun marriage" pushed on them by the Ontario provincial government.

In the first decade of the new millenium The Region of Waterloo is among the most vibrant and fastest growing regions of Canada because it has some of the best farm land in Ontario, two highly regarded Universities, a very stable financial and insurance industry, diversified industrial production and a rapidly expanding high tech sector anchored in enterprises like Research in Motion and numerous spinoff businesses from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

People settling in the Waterloo Region will find many varied employment opportunities, an exciting and varied cultural life, and schools that are second to none. K-W real estate is also quite a bit cheaper than similar properties in other Ontario cities such as Toronto or Ottawa.

The fact is, people living in Waterloo Region have the best of both worlds. They have the more friendly and pleasant atmosphere found in a smaller urban area along with the considerable amenities of major urban centres such as Toronto, Mississauga, London and Detroit.
